Checklist for Serious Workplace Accidents

1. Call 112 for emergency services and dispatch guides
2. In the case of environmental accidents, attempt to stop or limit the release if possible and safe
3. Provide necessary medical aid and organize rescue efforts
4. Secure the accident site for further accidents and investigations - block off
5. Notify the nearest supervisor
6. In the case of a fatal accident, contact the local POSOM group
7. Ensure someone from the workplace accompanies any injured individuals to the hospital
8. Gather information about the person accompanying:
• Name
• Phone number
9. Compile a report of the events and verify facts before sharing information
10. Appoint a person to handle media inquiries and provide information to the responsible party
11. Discuss with management/rescue leaders how to contact next of kin 
12. Inform safety representatives and affected individuals at the workplace of the accident
13. Inform the client and any subcontractors/side contractors of the workplace accident
14. Contact the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and report the accident on www.anmalarbetsskada.se
15. In the case of electrical accidents, also contact the Electrical Safety Authority
16. In the case of environmental accidents, contact the regulatory agency/municipal environmental office
17. Gather all involved in a safe and isolated area, do not allow anyone to leave immediately. Provide information about the event
18. Allow all to contact their loved ones
19. Provide physical and mental care to affected individuals
20. Provide an opportunity for discussion about the event
21. Arrange for a social support network for the evening and night
22. Inform about potential stress reactions in the following days
23. Schedule a meeting for the group the next day (social support)
24. Ensure that relatives of the injured/deceased/affected receive a visit from the company
25. Document the event in writing and images for further internal investigation.
